2009 Euro NCAP’s Top-Five Safest Cars
Recently, Euro NCAP has released the top five highest rated scoring cars among those cars that been tested in year 2009. Cars which in the list are all five star rated car and in this event it had been separated to their own category scoring. The safest car that had been tested in year 2009 was the Mk6 Volkswagen Golf and then follows up by the two hybrid cars, the Honda Insight and Toyota Prius.
And at the forth placing was the Hyundai i20, mean while there are three joint winners for the fifth placing, the Toyota Avensis, Volvo XC60 and the Opel Vauxhall Astra. In year 2009, Euro NCAP crash had tested 33 car models and had used up to a total of three cars, three front seats, four child seats and an array of a spare parts per model. In order to achieve the overall rating, the car is usually put through four crash tests a component test and is assessed by an inspector who considers tests results and the safety equipment and features of the car.
In 2009, upon the request of the manufacturer Euro NCAP also considered results from vehicles crash-tested in 2007/2008 and carried out the necessary tests and assessment to upgrade them to a result applicable under the new rating scheme. As in year 2010, the threshold achieving Euro NCAP’s maximum five stars rises from 75% to 80% in an Adult Occupant Protection plan and from 70% to 75% in Child Occupant Protection plan. As the threshold for the Pedestrian Protection rises to the 40% stages, the Euro NCAP poorest result of the year were achieved by the Suzuki Alto and Toyota Urban Cruiser which both also receiving three stars.
