The 2012 Canadian Auto Show was from 17 to 26 Feb and had all the major car companies represented with their latest creations for us to look at including the ever popular concept cars where companies show off futuristic models which may never see production but are still good to look at.

Hyundai Wins

The South Korean car maker Hyundai won two of the major awards in the show including Car of the year and best new design. The Elantra was voted the car of the year following up its success at the North American Car show and the best new design was picked up by the Hyundai Veloster. This shows the investment the south Korean company has invested in its new models and the hard work which the Hyundai designers and engineers has put in to making a great range of cars to enter new car markets.

Far East Dominate the Awards

Toyota were also big winners at the awards and picked up another five categories; including both pick-up, 2 out of 3 SUV and the full sized car awards add this to the 3 which Honda won, 2 Lexus wins, 2 Hyundai it totals 12 awards from the shows 19 awards this was a strong showing from the Far East and just shows what sort of problems the domestic car manufacturers face trying to fend off foreign imports from the likes of Hyundai, Toyota, Honda and Lexus. These companies cover all the different models of car from the Luxury saloon to the heavy duty off-road providing domestic manufacturers with major problems.

Concept Cars

Everyone’s favourite category is the concept car this is where you see the best and worst of manufacturers and designers ideas of what we should drive in the future. A firm favourite in this category was the BMW Vision Connected Drive Concept, Jaguar C-X16 Concept and the Acura NSX Concept these were three of the shows good looking and peoples favourite concept cars where as the Volkswagen Bulli Concept was probably the peoples least favourite concept car the 2012 Canadian Auto show.

While the sketch of the i40 Sedan from Hyundai was released just a couple of days ago, the official release of the model just came at the Motor Show from Barcelona. The Hyundai i40 Sedan uses the Fluidic Design that the Korean company uses on its latest models, though they took it a step further. Some might say that the Hyndai i40 Sedan looks a bit like the Ford Mondeo, which is its rival, but it still looks pretty good.

The engine of the i40 Sedan is a 2L Theta II model with 175HP on it (130 kW) and 213Nm. The second engine on the car will be a 1.7L diesel which will come in two variants. One of them has 113HP and 255 Nm and the other has 133HP.

One of the features which come with the i40 Sedan is the warning system which lets you know when you leave your lane. Another one is the connection for Bluetooth phones, a camera in the rear which somes with assistance for smart parking, plus front seats which are air ventilated. [Source: RPMGO]

Tiburon first began production in late 1996. It was available in a few foreign markets with engine choices of either 1.6L or 1.8L. In the United States, the Tiburon was first offered in 1997 with base models using the Elantra’s 1.8L 130 hp (97 kW) engine while the upscale FX received a 2.0L four-cylinder engine. The 2.0L was rated at 140 hp (104 kW) at the crankshaft (the car’s manual specifies 102 kW (137 hp) at the flywheel). Base weight was around 2,550 lb (1,150 kg), giving the RD Tiburon a higher power to weight ratio than the newer GK 2.0L. The 2.0L produces a 0-60 mph time of ~9.2
