Opel is Coming to China

Opel is Coming to ChinaOne of the GM’s European divisions, Opel decided to move on by getting their brand into market of China. They will join other GM brands in China such as Buick, Cadillac and Chevrolet. Eventually, Opel have the chance to involve in other Asia Pacific region, Australia and South America through China market. “We will market Opel as a European designed car in the premium segment. There are a growing number of Chinese who like European cars and have the money to afford them,” said company spokesman Andreas Kroemer talking to a German publication.

However, the actual date of launching is not announced yet. Opel had tested the China market with around 4,000 cars sold during the testing period, through Buick, which included the Opel Insignia-based Buick Regal in its product portfolio. This cooperation will be continuing until Opel has established a market position in the country. The company also plans to assemble the cars locally to lower down the selling price by cut off the import taxes, which could increase the price by around 20%

The main competitors of Opel in China will be BMW, Daimler and Volkswagen, who stand in China market for quite a long period.
